How we collect data

We collect non-public personal information from several sources, including information provided by members, joint owners, co-borrowers, guarantors, agents, and others on various applications and forms, such as, but not limited to, deposit account applications; loan applications, subscriptions, contest entries, and requests for information about accounts or products and services. Rio Grande Credit Union also collects information effected by transactions or by providing our products and services, covering transactions from loans, shares, negotiable instruments, ATM/debit cards, credit cards, and electronic transfers. Non-public personal information does NOT comprise of information that is received from federal, state or local government records, widely distributed media, or disclosures required to be made by law.

Rio Grande Credit Union utilizes analytics and tracking methods through Google and other online resources to remarket and target specific audiences through advertising online. Third-party vendors, including Google, show Rio Grande Credit Union’s ads on sites across the Internet. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on someone's past visits to the Rio Grande Credit Union website. How we use information collected

We may use information collected to acquire additional information about members from our marketing partners or service providers. For example, when an individual(s) submits an application for membership or for a financial product or service, we may use the Social Security number they provided to access a consumer report which may contain a credit score and information about their creditworthiness to determine if they meet our underwriting guidelines. We may use the information we collect online and that which we pair it with offline to:

  • market our products and services or those of our trusted partners
  • make a decision about an application for a product or service
  • service, manage, or collect on accounts
  • offer special deals or promotions
  • process transactions initiated by an individual(s)
  • verify the identity or information of an applicant provided on an application
  • perform everyday business tasks such as data analytics, digital property experience optimization, fraud prevention, security enhancements, or product and service improvements
  • respond to questions or inquiries
  • comply with federal, state, or local laws; civil, criminal, or regulatory investigations; or other legal requirements

Rio Grande Credit Union may disclose information about members as permitted by law. Once a member leaves the credit union, Rio Grande Credit Union will only continue to share their information as permitted or required by law.

Rio Grande Credit Union has no affiliates and does not share member information with third parties for their marketing purposes.


How we help protect children

Rio Grande Credit Union does not knowingly solicit or collect personal data from children under the age of 13, nor does the credit union knowingly market to children. The only financial service Rio Grande Credit Union offers to children under the age of 13 is a savings program that includes their parent or guardian, along with financial education intended to support the child's financial literacy. Rio Grande Credit Union recognizes that protecting children's identities and privacy is important and that responsibility, ultimately, rests with the parents or guardians.


Mobile Banking

While using RGCU's Mobile Banking App, the App will have access to the contacts stored on your mobile device. The specific features that may pull contacts from your mobile device are:

  • Mobile Lending
  • FIS Digital Payments
  • Zelle
  • Online Bill Pay (with Contacts Import enabled)
  • Other 3rd party web apps allowing to import user's contact
