Dine on a Dime: Steak-Topped Baked Potatoes
Fireworks in the sky and flavor on your plate! Celebrate the 4th of July with a loaded baked potato piled high with juicy steak and your favorite toppings. It’s a fun, filling, and budget-friendly way to enjoy the holiday!
Ingredients (Serves 2–4)
For the Potatoes:
- 2–4 medium russet potatoes
- Olive oil
- Salt
For the Steak Topping:
- 1–2 small sirloin or chuck steaks (or leftover grilled steak!)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt & pepper
Optional: a splash of BBQ or Worcestershire sauce for flavor
Toppings (mix & match):
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Green onions
- Crispy bacon bits
- Butter
- Jalapeños or hot sauce (for a kick!)
Instructions:
1. Bake the Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Scrub potatoes, pierce with a fork, rub with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake directly on the oven rack for 45–60 minutes, until fork-tender and crispy outside.
2. Cook the Steak
- Season steak with salt, pepper, and garlic.
- In a hot skillet with olive oil or butter, sear 3–4 minutes per side (adjust for thickness).
- Let rest 5 minutes, then slice thinly or dice into small bites.
3. Build Your Firecracker Potato!
- Slice each potato open and fluff the inside with a fork.
- Add butter and shredded cheese first (so they melt).
- Pile on the steak bites, then top with sour cream, green onions, bacon bits, or your favorites.
Optional: drizzle with BBQ sauce or hot sauce for a patriotic punch of flavor.
Budget Tip:
Using just one or two steaks stretched across multiple potatoes makes this a crowd-pleasing dish without the cost of a full steak dinner per person.
