Dine on a Dime: Slow Cooker Chili
February is the month of love—but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot to enjoy a delicious meal with the people you care about. Whether you’re planning a Valentine’s dinner, a family night in, or a cozy meal for one, these budget-friendly ideas prove you can dine well without breaking the bank.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained & rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) pinto or black beans, drained & rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 packet chili seasoning or homemade spices
- (Chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt & pepper)
- 1 cup water or broth
Optional toppings (use what you have):
Shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, or crackers
Instructions:
- Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add everything to the slow cooker: meat, beans, tomatoes, onion, seasoning, and water/broth.
- Stir well, cover, and cook:
- Low for 6–8 hours or
- High for 3–4 hours
Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
