What to Buy and What to Skip in June

As the days get longer and summer kicks off, June offers smart shoppers plenty of chances to score great deals—but not every purchase is worth it. Here’s a guide to what you should and shouldn’t buy in June to make the most of your money.

What to Buy in June

Outdoor Gear & Wear

Retailers start slashing prices on outdoor items like camping gear, grills, and patio furniture to stay competitive. It's a great time to grab supplies for your summer adventures.

Father’s Day Gifts

Leading up to Father’s Day (June 15 this year), expect deals on gadgets, power tools, wallets, and grooming kits. Watch for limited-time sales at big-box stores and online retailers.

Gym Memberships

Fitness centers often run summer promotions to bring in new members. With people spending more time outdoors, gyms try to lure you in with waived fees or discounted rates.

Semi-Annual Sales

Major retailers like Bath & Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, and department stores host semi-annual sales in June, offering deep discounts on seasonal items.

Movie and Travel Deals

With blockbuster movie season starting, theaters often offer summer passes or family bundles. June is also a good time to book late-summer or fall travel at lower prices.

What to Skip in June

Back-to-School Supplies

Even though stores may begin stocking supplies, it’s way too early to find good deals. Wait until late July or early August when back-to-school sales peak.

Amazon Electronics

Amazon Prime Day usually happens in July. If you're eyeing a Kindle, Echo, or Fire tablet, hold off for Prime Day discounts.

TVs and Electronics

While June has some electronics deals, the best discounts on TVs and tech usually come in November during Black Friday or in January before the Super Bowl.

Furniture

Unless you're shopping clearance, furniture tends to be more expensive mid-year. Wait for end-of-summer or Labor Day sales in early September.

Smart Tip: Create a mid-year budget check-in to plan your big purchases for the rest of the year. Timing your shopping around seasonal trends can help you save hundreds!

RGCU Rewards

Whatever you buy this month, don't forget to use your RGCU debit or credit card and earn reward points! These points can be easily redeemed for things like cash back, gift cards, travel, and more.
