Remembering 9/11: 25 Years of Remembrance, Resilience and Community

September 11, 2026, marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001—a day that forever changed our nation and touched countless lives. As we pause to remember those who lost their lives, the families who continue to carry their memories, and the heroes who responded with courage and compassion, we are reminded of the strength that comes from standing together.

At Rio Grande Credit Union (RGCU), we believe that community is more than a word. It is something we build through the way we support one another, show up when help is needed, and invest in the places we call home. The 25th anniversary of 9/11 offers an opportunity to reflect on those values and the importance of looking out for our neighbors.

The events of September 11 brought extraordinary challenges and uncertainty. Yet, amid the tragedy, there were countless acts of courage, kindness and selflessness. First responders ran toward danger to help others. Volunteers stepped forward to support communities. Neighbors helped neighbors. Ordinary people demonstrated extraordinary compassion.

Twenty-five years later, the lessons of that day remain meaningful. We remember that even during difficult times, small acts of kindness can make a lasting difference. A helping hand, a listening ear, a generous gesture or simply being there for someone can strengthen an entire community.

We honor the first responders, military members, volunteers, healthcare professionals, community leaders and everyday citizens who have dedicated themselves to protecting and serving others. We remember those who never made it home and the families and loved ones whose lives were changed forever.
