Relief available for Federal employees affected by the government shutdown
For Federal employees, making ends meet during the Federal Government shutdown can be a challenge. Rio Grande Credit Union is here to help. We are here to serve our members and our community in this time of need.
How can Rio Grande Credit Union help?
There are a few ways we can help. First is the Federal Employee Relief Loan. It’s a six-month, zero interest loan, for a maximum amount of two times a Federal Employee’s gross bi-weekly salary. Only members working for the Federal Government qualify for this loan.
Second, if you are a Federal employee who has an existing loan with RGCU, you can receive up to a three-month extension on current RGCU loans. If you had an extension or used Skip-a-Pay in the past, you may still be eligible for this extension.
Third, we have our Financial Coach available to meet with you to review your household budget (or create one) and find creative solutions to this temporary income challenge.
How do I get started?
Please stop by one of our six locations and bring your 2 most recent federal paystubs. Let our front desk know that your interested in Federal Employee Relief programs. Right now, these loans and extensions are only available by visiting our branches.
Is this available to non-members?
Yes, non-members will have to join the credit union through the normal eligibility process. Once you become a member, you are immediately eligible for the Federal Employee Relief Loan.
How long is this available?
Right now, the loan is available between 12/26/18 and 1/31/19. However, availability dates may change based on the duration of the government shutdown.
